Tonight marks the official start of the Steward Observatory blazar monitoring program to support Cycle 5 of the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope mission. Although the the SPOL instrument was successfully installed on the 2.3m Bok Telescope, the weather prevented any hope of making the first blazar observations for campaign 42. Light rain fell on Kitt Peak intermittently throughout the night. Worse, the forecast calls for the wet conditions to continue for the next week! This has been one of the most robust monsoon seasons in memory and the weather pattern currently shows no evidence of leaving Arizona any time soon.
