The 41st Fermi/Steward Observatory observing campaign (the final campaign
for Fermi Cycle 4) begins at the Bok Telescope on Kitt Peak, AZ in a frustrating manner that is typical for the summer monsoon season in the desert southwest.
Orographic clouds formed over the mountain during the entire night.
Despite the fact that the heavy thunderstorm activity, which has kept the dome
closed during the entire preceding week, has moved well east and south
of Kitt Peak, no observations could be made until well after midnight. A half
dozen targets were successfully observed through holes in the clouds and
through lighter patches of cloud. The seeing was not good, coming in at between
2 and 3 arcsec.
