This was a very short night for the monitoring program. A brief early break in the clouds allowed a polarization measurement of a single target. Seeing was about 1.4 arcsec. By midnight it was raining with lightning not too far off. The overcast and occasional light rain continued until daybreak.
The monsoon has come back with a vengeance, helped by ex-tropical storm Lorena.
The current forecast for the remainder of this observing
campaign has the moisture from Lorena moving into southern Arizona and no
night with a rain chance of less than 50%. In fact, on Monday, the rain chance is 90%. These absurd precipitation probabilities
are very rare in southern Arizona and do not bode well for obtaining a significant amount of data from now until the end of the campaign.
